Head High 04:21
Reconnect kid, plug yourself in I’m pep-talking again Leaves turn brown and my post-it-note soul lies Open now, once again, to suggestion Brick by brick take down your tower Loose your grip on the God-game Faith I guess is a risk undressed So take out your best clothes as Sunday best goes Head high, hands out Hard feet, softened brow A tender heart takes you on I’m pep-talking again... Awake my soul, o let it in Fill the space within your skin, son River runs to the sea, no doubt But the freedom comes on the way My heart longs for a protest song To pull me home like gravity Head high, hands out Hard feet, softened brow A tender heart takes you on I’m pep-talking again... Awake my soul, o let it in Fill the space within your skin, son There’s is a light that never goes out There is a lens for the world A moment’s glimpse is a precious gift But for now take heart, remember well Head high, hands out Hard feet, softened brow A tender heart takes you on I’m pep-talking again... Awake my soul, o let it in Fill the space within your skin, son

about

Recorded one winter Wednesday for Ridley Hall's 'books down day'. A time to feed my soul and bless other people. So here is the feeding and the blessing... I can only hope the latter is true.

We are confused and doubtful, all full of frowns and furrowed brows. I think something has gone wrong if that isn't true. This is just how the world seems to be: beautiful and broken. But the Son of Man says something else. There is a different direction and another way home. It is no less confusing, and there is no less doubt but we're talking about a new destination and a different journey.

This song came from spending a bit of time with the twelve around the Son. I joined in with their confusion, their doubt. This Son pointed to himself, reinterpreted everything through himself, showed himself as the lens for the world...
